Nine Percent of Global Energy Demand is Farm Based

According to the FAO, the agri-food chain accounts for 30 percent of the world's energy demand.
  • 70% of this 30%, or 21% of total global energy demand, is from beyond the farm gate
  • 30% of the 30%, or 9% of total global energy demand, is from the farm
Note that these numbers do not include land use, and land use is important for climate modeling.
